YEAR 3 VISIT LUNT ROMAN FORT SEPTEMBER 2008

Rob the Roman taught us how to be Roman soldiers.

We had to say “Sin, Dex, Sin, Dex,” when we marched.

This is short for Sinister, Dexter, left right.

We pretended to charge at the Celtic warriors!

We learned lots about the Roman armour, standards and what the soldiers had to carry whenever they marched.

From the fort walls we could see all the way to Coventry.

Year 3 had a Roman theme day when we dressed as Roman children and did ‘Roman’ things. We did our Numeracy with Roman numerals, we wrote on wax tablets, we practised our marching drill, we washed with olive oil and a strigil, made mosaics and had a really fun day!

We dressed in  tunicas, sandals and belts. It was a bit cold at break time!

We had a go at playing knucklebones but we weren’t very good!

We were washed with olive oil and a strigil ! It tickled!

We  tried writing on a wax tablet, using a knitting needle as a stylus. It’s much harder than writing with a pencil or pen!

We practised ‘bash’ and ‘stab’ but only in fun!

Some of us thought this was the best part of the day!
